merry christmas to you

I've finally had a couple of day to make Christmas treats and put together little presents with the kids.  Ive been totally content hanging around the house this weekend making buttermints and peppermint maringues and these little ornaments from Purl to give as gifts.  I'm not sure I can say my boys have been quite as thrilled with the mellow weekend but they'll survive. There is so much excitement and anticipation around here about Christmas!

I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

roman's bear

He's a Black Bear from the Northwoods and he belongs to a very sweet boy (with amazing parents).

thank you

Thank you all...for supporting my work by buying it, sharing it and saying kind words about it.  It is always such an amazing feeling to fill up my shop with my toys and get such a great response.   Lots of things got snapped up right away but there are still a few things left including this bear which might be my favorite new toy. (By the way, I'd like a pair of pajamas just like these for Christmas, please.)  My work is not done yet as I still have a couple custom orders to finish up and a couple little presents to make before Christmas. The semester is winding down now too and soon I'll be enjoying a much needed break.  I'm not able to take on any custom work right now and I'm not sure when I will again.

I'm headed to the post office with your orders tomorrow as long as I can make my way through the snow.  We got somewhere around 10" of it today so it seems we will have a white Christmas here after all!

Also, apologies for not getting the work up on my site at exactly noon on Saturday.  I learned something:  While the i-phone Etsy app makes it really easy to do business on the go, reception from inside the family locker room at the YMCA just doesn't cut it!

the holiday update!

Now in the shop...

another peek (and some info about the update)

I'm getting excited about this update.  It's been so long since I did one...it feels good to finally be able to stock up my shop.

I've had a few questions about the update and about buying from Etsy so I'll try to address some of them:  I'll add everything I have to offer for the update to my shop at noon (CST) on Saturday.  Nothing will be sold before then.  You can now pay with either Paypal or credit card in my shop.  If you see something you know you'd like to purchase, it's probably smart to put it in your cart and check-out right away.  Until you actually go through the check-out process someone else can still buy it.  If you to go back to my shop and buy any additional items I can adjust the shipping for combined items later, no problem.  I do ship overseas.  I use USPS priority shipping with insurance unless otherwise noted.

In between swimming lessons, violin recitals and other going-ons I'll be checking in on my shop messages and also my email all weekend so I can answer any additional questions. I hope you find something you like!

there will be brooches

I'm going through photos tonight for the update on Saturday.  I'm feeling pretty clever for getting the pictures taken outside on Monday during a very small window of time in which it was both sunny and unseasonably warm.  That may not happen again for about five months!

little details (another peek)

Things are shaping up in the studio this week.  I love fussing over the little details!  Thank you so much for your concern and well wishes;  it is very much appreciated and we are all okay here.

sneak peek

My studio table is a mess right now which is good...it means I'm back at work.  Custom Christmas orders and work for the update on December 8th are coming along.

My family and I had some tough stuff to deal with over the past couple of weeks and taking care of myself and them was my only real priority; everything else had to take a backseat.  For any of you who may be waiting for an order that is a bit late or an unanswered email, I apologize.  I'm still here.

little black cat

This little kitty is one of the projects I finished lately*.  There have been other projects too, but not as many as I had hoped.  These past two months have been a bit rough around here mostly because either I or my kids (and often all of us) have been sick.  I have lots of work that needs my attention...custom orders, drawings, a pile of grading, not to mention our first Thanksgiving Dinner planning.  Oh boy.  It WILL all get done but these next several weeks are sure to be intense.  I have so many things I have wanted to show you here...I'll try to do better with that too!

* This cat was a custom order and will not be in my update on December 8th.  Other cats will be available though!

shop update!

I'll be updating my Etsy shop with a small selection of toys on Saturday December 8th at noon (CST).  It will not be a very large update but if you were hoping to buy a little something special for the holiday season but didn't get on my custom order list this is your chance!  There will be a couple of bears, some kitties, some small stocking stuffers and whatever else I have time for/strikes my fancy.

frankie magazine feature

Something exciting showed up on my doorstep yesterday...the 50th issue of Frankie Magazine featuring a nice picture of one of my toys and some very kind works from Frankie.  I'm thrilled to be included in such a beautiful and thoughtful and thoroughly stylish magazine.  Thank you, Frankie!  Yet another reason to love Australia!

black velvet swan

Did you remember that the newest toy is almost always my favorite?  I'm totally pleased with myself over this swan if you want to know the truth.  It's a present for a special little boy. (Not this one in the picture although he wants one too.)

baby rabbits

A new version of my Waldorf-inspired baby toy.  This body type is still made of gorgeous organic Japanese cotton gauze and it has a layer of organic cotton batting inside.  These are both spoken for but I do plan on making more.

custom orders update

I've had a nice amount of interest in my toys lately and I'm very grateful for it.  I have been so focused on my various teaching responsibilities lately I haven't been "out there" much with my toys yet the orders keep coming...I don't understand it, but thank you!!  I'm afraid I have had to stop taking custom orders for the time being.   I'm all filled up with orders for Christmas now, and I'm not sure yet beyond that.  I truly hate to have to say "no" to anyone who asks me to make them something special but I'm only one woman and I have to be careful not to take on way too much.

I am planning a small update sometime in early December.  I will definitely keep you posted here and on Facebook about that.  These three little kitties will be in the next update for sure and I hope some new things as well.

I made this dog for a friend (in trade) a little while ago but never posted pictures.  I hesitated a bit because this toy was to look like a beloved pet and while I was happy to do it for my friend, it's not something I think I want to do again.  It's too much pressure to get it just right.  I think Ginger turned out well and it was a fun challenge (once I got over my fear of failure and just went for it) but I will probably not be taking any orders for custom pet-inspired work.

Speaking of homages to pets, check out these fabulous pet portraits by my friend Jennifer Davis

My kids go back to school tomorrow!

free time

There was a party in my studio the other day.  Soon school will be back in session and our days will be much more structured.  I'm starting a new teaching position this fall so I'm very busy now finishing up my syllabus and preparing slide lectures.  I'll be making toys a bit this fall, but not as much as I have in the past perhaps.  I already have a pretty full list of custom work to do for Christmas, believe it or not.  I may have just a spot or two left so email me if you want to get on my list.

We just got back from another amazing camping trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota.  It's magical there.  I have a million pictures but these were just a few that caught my eye today as I started the big task of going through them all.  I'll share some more another time.  There was a very distinct fall-like chill in the air up north and now we are feeling it here in Minneapolis too.  Summer is slipping away.  It's been such a good one.

a boy doll (finally)

I'm so happy I finally had an opportunity to make a little boy doll.  When I developed my doll pattern I wanted to make it work easily as either a boy or a girl but I had never actually made a boy before this guy.  I also adjusted the pattern a bit for this doll to make him a little smaller as he is to be the little brother of a doll I made a couple years ago.  And as you can see this boy is extra special because he has glasses!  I was somewhat doubtful that I'd be able to pull this part off but I'm glad the lovely customer I was working with asked me to do it because it was a fun challenge.  As a glasses wearer myself I know how nice it is to have a couple of pairs to choose from so this guy has orange specs too.

Happy Birthday, C!  I hope you love your new little friend.
