twins fan

Opening day is just around the corner!

My first movie.

for someone very small

I made some tiny overalls for a very cute little bear I'm working on.  I love this vintage fabric so much...I found a piece of it at a thrift store a while back and now I don't have much of it left.  I'm always on the lookout for more.

Speaking of tiny clothes, and vintage...My friend Tammy has a great vintage shop on Etsy called Ms Tips specializing in clothing for women and children.  Ms. Tips  is celebrating her first (very successful) year in business by offering 30% off today!  I wish I were someone very small who could wear this gorgeous piece.

black bears

We have spent a lot of time this winter watching the Lily and Hope Den Cam from the North American Bear Center in Ely Minnesota.  Lily the black bear had two more cubs this winter and we have really enjoyed watching them grow.  They have been really frisky lately...have a look!

Here is a little black bear cub that I made last week (during Custom Bear Week).  He is off to his new home!

this weekend: thrift store treasures

Easter is in full effect at my favorite thrift store right now and the kids and I picked up these treasures yesterday.  I managed to sneak a few things into the cart for Easter baskets too. With Easter in particular it feels a bit silly to me to keep up the ruse but the kids are always so delighted to find their baskets and hunt for eggs.  My five year old is very analytical and I know he kind of knows the score but he wants to believe.  Yesterday he asked me if the Easter Rabbit eats human food.  He speculated that because he behaves like a human (putting together Easter baskets and hiding them for children) he probably eats food like a human does too.  So pretty much he was asking me if the Easter Rabbit was really a human right?  My answer to these types of questions about implausible holiday characters  is usually just "Hmmmm, I don't know kiddo."  which is good enough because he doesn't really want to know the answer anyway.

this weekend

One project leads right into another lately and life feels really busy.  I finished up this custom bear last night and now I have a little more time to work today while the kids are taking an afternoon rest.  Next week is spring break so with both kids home all day getting a lot of work done might be tougher than usual.

I've found it really challenging to focus on my work this week.  Like everyone,  I've been so preoccupied with the sad and frightening situation in Japan.  Above is a picture of me and my classmates (in 1993!) from the year I spent there as a Rotary Exchange Student. The city I lived in was not directly affected by the tsunami but the volatile nuclear situation is so scary for the whole country.  I've spent a lot of time over the past few days looking at my scrapbook from that year wondering how how it must feel to be living through such a tragedy and worrying about people I haven't been in touch with for years. I'm relieved at least that the ones I am in contact with are safe.

duck feet

almost done

They just need feet.  I shouldn't still be working on these because this isn't Duck Week. Last week was Duck Week and this week is Custom Bears Week.   I have a lot to do in the next three weeks but then I'm flying south with my husband to MEXICO on a long overdue vacation.  I can hardly wait.

double birthday

My sister and I both married fellas who were born on the 13th of March and they are two of the sweetest, handsomest, most wonderful men around.  And now we can both say that they are amazing fathers too.  Happy Birthday Benji and Adam, we are so lucky we found you!

shop update

I'll be updating my Etsy shop with a group of new toys on
Monday April 11th at noon (CST).

I'm excited about this new duck...there's a green version too!

A very kind woman at my son's school gave me these delightful old toys just because she thought I'd appreciate them.  How lucky can a person get?!  Stay tuned for more vintage treasures...apparently there are more coming my way!

Thank You L.A!

oscar's drawings

Everything he draws these days just blows me away.  He brought this book of drawings home from school the other day and I can't stop looking at it.  Having a house full of magical kid's drawings is such a good parent perk!

three years old

We had a party today.  Happy Birthday Dear Jude!

all about pandas

My son Jude will be celebrating his third birthday this weekend.  These are the invites I came up with for the boy who is currently all about pandas.  Really these should have gone out about two weeks ago but we all lost a lot of time to illness around here.  If you EVER hear me take an obstinate attitude towards being sick again,  please remind me that this only makes matters worse!
